Crimple announce new Head Chef appointment

Harrogate’s newest Farm Shop and Restaurant, Crimple, have announced the appointment of a new Head Chef, Michael Botterman.

Originally from Belgium, but now a Harrogate local, Michael trained at the Provincial Institute for the Catering Industry of Antwerp where he developed his classical techniques before working his way up through various roles to become Head Chef.

His most recent role was as Head Chef at Lost & Found in Leeds where he was responsible for menu development and managing the large kitchen on Greek Street.

A passionate foodie, Michael was inspired by his grandmother’s cooking, absorbing traditional recipes from her such as her famous Belgian stew.

Family-owned business Crimple, is run by Graham and Tori Watson along with their two daughters Alice and Bryony, and now employ over 60 local staff.  With a mission to support local businesses their 20,000sq ft food hall now stock over 200 local suppliers as well as using locally sourced produce in their 160 seat restaurant.

Tim Kitchen, Operations Director at Crimple said: ‘’We are incredibly excited to welcome Michael into the Crimple team.  His love for classical cooking and obvious talent shine through and we are excited to see his ideas come to life, especially in our new daily set menu, offering amazing value to customers. As a local business, we are passionate about supporting Yorkshire suppliers and so can’t wait to taste his Yorkshire creations and limited-edition dishes.‘’

Chef Michael adds: “I’m looking forward to this next chapter in my culinary journey.  It’s a really exciting challenge to take these amazing Yorkshire products and bring them to life on a menu. With the cost of living on the rise, it’s a challenge to keep costs down and quality high, but with our daily set menus I know we can wow customers with our offer. I’m excited to get started!’’

The appointment comes at a busy time for the Crimple team who will launch their new Summer Supper Clubs this month.

Welcoming guests between 6pm–9pm on Friday 29th July, the evening will give diners a taste of old New York with live jazz from Chris White’s Jazz Trio, stunning cocktails and an incredible three-course NYC inspired supper curated by new Head Chef Michael.
