Malton, Yorkshire’s Food Capital is set to play host to two days of foodie fun this weekend.
The North Yorkshire town, which is home to an array of award-winning artisan food and drink businesses, will host their Monthly Food Market this Saturday 14th September, followed by the Malton 10K and accompanying Sunday Market on Sunday 15th.
This year’s Malton 10k, previously known as the Marathon Du Malton, will see many of the Saturday stall holders staying an extra day to feed the runners and spectators, meaning that they can indulge in a huge array of delicious, locally prepared food and drink from some of Yorkshire’s best food producers.
Mark Brayshaw, Head of Visit Malton, said: “Two days with two big events means that this weekend is set to be one of the best to visit Malton. There’ll be a real festival spirit descending on the town and we want as many people as possible to come and be a part of the festivities.”
Inspired by the Marathon du Medoc in France, in which participants run around a vineyard, sampling its wares along the way, the Malton 10k starts in front of St Michael’s Church, and includes three categories – runners only, Classique and L’Escargot. Entrants into the latter two sections will take part in the Gourmet Wineathlon, sipping and nibbling their way around the course.
Mark continues: “With so many local providers of both food and drink around Malton, we were keen that this isn’t just about the wine, but rather samples of all kinds for our participants, from beef hors d’oevres to a cheeky swig of gin, as they make their way around.”
