An East Yorkshire microbrewery is celebrating its success in a War of the Roses themed beer competition.
Wold Newton based Wold Top Brewery’s blonde beer Wold Gold beat stiff competition from Lancashire beer Bad to the Bone and Hurricane from Haworth Steam Brewery to win the accolade of Best Beer at the Wilsden Beer Festival near Bradford recently.
Such was the success of the third Wilsden Village festival and its War of the Roses themed competition that featured 16 beers from Yorkshire and Lancashire, that over 1,200 pints were enjoyed and the beer had run out by 9.30pm!
Wold Top Brewery’s Humber Light, popular with theatre goers at the Hull Truck Theatre, has also been shortlisted in the final of the Craft Keg category of the new Market Town Taverns Yorkshire Beer competition and has gone to a public vote in all 15 of the Market Town Taverns throughout Yorkshire. 5p from the sale of every pint of all 18 shortlisted beers will be donated to Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
