Steenbergs

Get to know more about Steenbergs…

Steenbergs was set up in 2003 by Axel and Sophie Steenberg (who are still very much at the helm of the business) just outside Ripon, in North Yorkshire. Focus has always been on organic and the environment. We started with organic herbs and spices, pioneering Fairtrade spices (1st in the UK licensed to import and sell with the logo) and have over 400 different spices, herbs and blends (all blended here in North Yorkshire to our own recipes).  Our blends include ranges of curry mixes, BBQ rubs and Arabic spice blends.

We expanded into loose leaf tea and herbal teas (due to the synergy with our suppliers, spices are often shade trees for tea plantations, as well as our very personal interest in teas, blended, herbal and single estate), as well as baking extracts and flower waters. We are stocked in farm shops, food halls, organic shops and delis as well as a number of distributors (particularly for the baking extracts range). We also supply food producers in larger amounts from a kilo upwards.

Old Hamlet Wine and Spice is a mulling spice brand that has been going since the 1970s and came to Yorkshire and Steenbergs in 2017. It’s a variety of mixes for wine, cider, whisky and apple juice in sewn cloth bags, envelopes and boxes, all produced here in Yorkshire.

Our two factories are based just outside Ripon in the Barker Business Park and we started on the same park 22 years ago. Surrounded by rural Yorkshire it keeps us rooted in Yorkshire. The environment is at the heart of what we do, we are organic, certified B-Corp (doing good through business) and environmentally audited. We are solar powered (including with a battery to store excess energy), living roof and rainwater harvested loos, as well as investing in new and old woodland for carbon capture and biodiversity. We are SALSA certified, B-Corp, Fairtrade, Vegan, Kosher and on Sedex. What you get with Steenbergs is people with over 40 years of knowledge who are based firmly at the heart of the business. We also supply food producers in larger amounts from a kilo upwards.
