With over 26 years’ experience working for some of the giants of the food industry, including Warburtons, Sainsbury’s, Bakkavor and Cranswick, covering technical, compliance, H&S, hygiene, ethical compliance and sustainability for all the major retailers, Garry has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the food industry, with specialist knowledge of bakery products, meat (all the way from pig and chicken farming through to cooked ready to eat products and everything in-between), chilled ready to eat and ready to cook foods. Through this time, Garry has been part of the set up of 4 brand new food factories to install food safety systems and recruit and train employees and installing 6 new systems into companies, covering BRCGS, Safe and Legal, ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and RSPO standards. More recently, Garry has been involved in sustainability management which includes designing and implementing a carbon footprint calculation system and establishing carbon neutrality systems.

He is lead auditor trained, including specifically for social systems and ISO 14001. He is a member of both the working parties and Technical Advisory Committees for BRCGS Food Safety and BRCGS Ethical standards who work to update and support the generation of these standards. He is also a consultant for the Association of Labour Providers; a Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST); a registered IFST Auditor and Mentor; a registered IFST Food Safety Manager and an Associate Member of IEMA.

In April 2023, Garry launched Warhurst Associates to use his extensive knowledge which he has gained working in industry to support all sizes of businesses in their journey to compliance against any standard from SALSA through to BRCGS and ISO. He can support you in any area of compliance from completing internal audits, installing HACCP / food safety management programmes, GAP audits against standards, installing basic systems to measure your carbon footprint through to being a helping hand and support at every step of your journey to SALSA, BRCGS, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001 or SMETA (SEDEX) approval. However, Garry is also there to support in any issue from challenges from the EHO or if you are just looking to understand something. No job is too small or too large!
