York Gin plays starring role

The team at York Gin are celebrating after having their Mad Alice Bloody Orange Gin featured on Alan Titchmarsh’s ‘Love Your Weekend’ programme earlier this month.

The popular programme which celebrates the British countryside saw culinary expert Jonathan Phang use the spirit, which was inspired by historical figure Alice Smith who legend has it was imprisoned at York Castle for poisoning her husband in the 1820’s, in a Breakfast Martini cocktail, as part of the ‘Best of British’ slot.

Jonathan described it as an ‘amazing gin, bright, fruitful and fabulous’, whilst fellow guest Alan Davies of QI and Jonathan Creek fame called it ‘really delicious’.

Natalie Hall, Director of York Drinks Ltd owner of York Gin, said: “The programme’s producers contacted us out of the blue in January and said they specifically wanted York Gin for their drinks slot.

“It’s always brilliant to get national exposure for our gins, and it’s lovely to see the hosts and guests enjoying them so much.

“The gin is a collaboration with award-winning tour guide Alicia Stabler of Mad Alice’s Bloody Tour of York, and wasn’t due on shelves until later this year, but appearing on national TV led us to make a special batch earlier than planned and given that the website has been very busy after our appearance we may well make another batch!”
