YORKSHIRE BAKERY VENTURES INTO RETAIL WITH TEATIME TART RANGE

Award winning Shipley bakery and patissier, Just Desserts, is set to launch its first retail range of individual teatime tarts at Keelham Farm Shop in Thornton, Bradford, to coincide with the outlet’s Yorkshire Week of activities. Retailing for £1.99, customers can choose from 7 different flavour
Yorkshire favourites.

Suppliers of a range of premium handmade desserts to the foodservice and hospitality sectors, the company unveiled its new tart range at a recent trade show’s Feed the Dragon forum, where speciality food producers pitch their products to top food buyers. Victoria Robertshaw, co-owner of Keelham Farm Shop was one of the ‘dragons’ invited to the event and was so impressed by the range, she invited the company to package the products for retail.

Customers and visitors to Keelham Farm Shop will be able to taste and buy the new tarts with a cup of Yorkshire tea during Yorkshire Week (incorporating Yorkshire Day on 1 August) including Treacle Tart, Pear and Almond Franzipan, Rhubarb Franzipan and traditional favourites Bakewell Tart and Yorkshire Curd Tart.

Just Desserts recently invested in a new bakery blocker to produce the new range, which features a fluted pastry edge for a more artisan feel. With its eye-catching appeal, the retail range supports the bakery’s growth plans to expand its customer base and to develop new markets.

The company has seen an increase in the continuing trend for mini-desserts and the new individual tart range will appeal to retail customers wishing to take home the teatime treats.

James O’Dwyer, managing director, Just Desserts said: “We got the thumbs up from all the food buyers on the Feed the Dragon panel, which included Rudding Park’s Executive chef, Stephanie Moon. Our new individual tarts are a versatile product for our foodservice customers and we are excited to dip a toe in the water by offering them for retail for the first time at Keelham Farm Shop. We will be very interested to see how well received they are by customers and are confident they will be highly appealing.

Keelham Farm Shop on Brighouse and Denholme Road, Thornton, is owned by third generation famers, brother and sister James and Victoria Robertshaw. The siblings champion and support local producers and farmers with more than 400 products available to buy from across the region, sourcing local food to ensure it reaches its farm shop quicker, remaining fresher for longer.
