Yorkshire Distillery Wins 2 Great Taste Awards

A North Yorkshire drinks producer are celebrating after two of their products were awarded Gold Stars at this year’s Great Taste Awards.

Announced at the beginning of August, Raisthorpe Distillery were awarded one star for their Yorkshire Premium Tonic, one of seven tonics they produce using Yorkshire water and Quassia, and a coveted 2-star award for their Sloe Whisky, which the judges said was ‘a beautifully balanced liqueur, drinkable with tonic but in such great balance on its own, making it an ideal ‘sipper’, particularly on a cold winter’s night.’

More than 14,000 products from 108 countries were entered into this year’s awards, which are known as the Oscars of the food and drink world. Each of the entries was judged blind by the panel of industry experts which this year included chefs, buyers, food writers and retailers to ensure the robust and impartial judging standards were maintained across the board.

Oliver Medforth, Director of Yorkshire Tonics said: “We’re delighted that our products have gained these highly respected accolades against some really tough competition and it’s great to receive further independent endorsement from the experts.

“The Great Taste Awards provide a benchmark of quality for artisan food producers and mean that consumers can be confident that our products taste as great as they look.”

A family business launched more than 10 years ago by Julia Medforth at the family farm in Wharram near Malton, Raisthorpe are no strangers to winning Great Taste Awards and over the last decade, have collected 29 Stars in total across their range.

Raisthorpe’s products are available in farm shops, delis and independent retailers throughout the region and beyond, as well as online at www.raisthorpemanor.com
