Yorkshire Liqueur featured on ITV’s James Martin’s Saturday Morning

The founder of an award-winning Yorkshire liqueur business is celebrating after his product was featured on ITV’s James Martin’s Saturday Morning recently.

Rhucello, a rhubarb-based liqueur created by David Burnley using the world-famous West Yorkshire produce, was included in a recipe slot on the popular Saturday morning programme last week, which saw the Yorkshire Chef create a Yorkshire Parkin with Rhucello and blood orange syrup recipe.

Interviewed via video link, founder David spoke to James about the origins of the spirit which he developed over 10 years ago using rhubarb from the ‘Yorkshire Rhubarb Triangle’.

Rhuchello has since gone on to win a legion of fans across the country and more recently has picked up a number of prestigious industry awards, including Best Yorkshire Spirit and Supreme Champion Product at the 2024 Deliciously Yorkshire Taste Awards last November.

Including the drink in a blood orange syrup which was drizzled over a traditional Yorkshire parkin, James was joined by fellow chefs Nathan Outlaw and Paul Foster who were both impressed by its natural rhubarb flavours.

David said: “It was great to appear on such a popular programme and speak to James about how Rhuchello was created using fantastic local rhubarb and how its grown in popularity over the last decade.  I was delighted that all three chefs seemed to really enjoy it and sang its praises.”

Created after a distillery tour in Amsterdam which had no rhubarb liqueur options available, David, who has a science and finance background, has worked hard to refine the recipe in order to keep its natural flavours and colour, and it’s now stocked at independent retailers throughout the region and beyond.
