Yorkshire Producers Celebrate Great Taste Gold Stars

Businesses from across Yorkshire are celebrating after the Guild of Fine Food released this year’s prestigious Great Taste Awards results.

Known as the ‘Oscars of the food and drink industry’ Great Taste is the world’s largest and most trusted accreditation scheme, attracting thousands of entries from across the globe.

In total 196 Yorkshire businesses took home 280 of the coveted gold stars for their products which are awarded on a 1, 2 or 3-star basis.

Each entry is meticulously blind tasted by the Guild’s expert judging panel of over 500 industry experts across nearly 100 judging days, with each producer receiving detailed feedback.

Whilst being awarded any number of stars is an incredible achievement, gaining 3 stars is a hugely rare accolade and the sign of incredible quality and taste.

Amongst the big winners from the region were three coffee producers including West Yorkshire based Dark Woods Coffee, who had three separate products attain 3 stars, along with Coffee Care and Danelaw Coffee.

Damian Blackburn, Director at Dark Woods Coffee said: “To see our El Placer Wush Wush “Black Honey” win a 3 Star award for the second year in a row is a dream come true, and its credit to the whole Dark Woods team with their commitment to sourcing and quality.”

2-Star winners in this year’s awards included Shepherds Purse Artisan Cheeses, Pennine Brewing, The Yorkshire Kitchen, Staal Smokekhouse, Mallowdramatic, Town End Farm Shop, Ryeburn of Helmsley, Rosebud Preserves and Lishman’s of Ilkley amongst many others, who took home both 2 and 1 stars.
