Brewer serves up traditional British Favourite at Premium Pubs

*Goes together like Cake and Cheese…*

Keighley based family brewer, Timothy Taylor, has joined forces with two fellow Yorkshire family businesses to serve up a slice of British tradition across its premium dining pub estate – fruit cake and cheese. Artisan cheese maker, Shepherds Purse of Thirsk will supply its award-winning cheeses and Shipley bakers and pâtissiers, Just Desserts, has baked a complementary Landlord’s Fruit Cake-with-a difference, made with the brewery’s Championship Landlord bitter.

_”It’s a long established British tradition to serve fruit cake with cheese, so we wanted to find likeminded businesses to work with us to create a delicious cheeseboard and cake combination,”_ commented Adrian Sykes, food development manager, Timothy Taylor.

Inspired following an invitation to tour the Shepherds Purse dairy and taste its award winning cheeses, the Timothy Taylor pub chefs were so impressed with the quality and taste of the traditionally handmade produce they selected only cheeses from the company to offer to its discerning Yorkshire customers. The brewer then approached its regular supplier, Just Desserts, makers of premium handmade desserts to the hospitality and foodservice sectors, to bake a bespoke rich fruit cake using one of Timothy Taylor’s award-winning pale ales.

A range of cheeses, including best seller, Yorkshire Blue, Monks Folly, Ryedale, Yorkshire Fettle and the company’s latest innovation Bells Bluemin White, will be served to customers on bespoke, branded Shepherds Purse oak cheeseboards. The cheeseboard complements Timothy Taylor’s quality, freshly made and locally sourced British food offer.

Adrian Sykes continued: _”Our chefs are impressed with the premium range of artisan cheeses from Shepherds Purse and the high quality products from Just Desserts. As one of only a few independently run traditional Yorkshire brewers, it is great to be able to deal with two successful Yorkshire businesses producing traditional, high quality, handcrafted products. Both are award-winning producers and we are delighted to be able to offer their products to our foodie customers from Monday 13 February.”_

Katie Matten, managing director, Shepherds Purse Cheeses said: _”We are delighted to be working with such a highly regarded Yorkshire brewer. The Timothy Taylor premium dining pubs attract a high quality customer looking for a top quality food offer and our cheeses will be perfect for their discerning tastes. We are proud to be the only cheese on the Timothy Taylor cheeseboard. We love the idea of a fruit cake to complement our cheeses too and to work alongside a great baker such as Just Desserts is the icing on the cake.”_

Kate Foxon, sales manager, Just Desserts commented: _”We hope our Landlord’s Fruit Cake is well received by the customers at Timothy Taylor premium pubs. We tried a number of recipes before we were happy with the quality, texture and taste combination of mixed fruit and classic, strong pale ale, but we think we’re onto a winner with the Landlord’s! It will work perfectly with the premium cheeses from Shepherds Purse.”_
