“To work with such a renowned retailer as Waitrose is fantastic news for us and we are relishing the chance to work with them”, commented Matthew Hodgson, Director at Great Newsome Brewery.
“Waitrose has a great reputation for working with the finest producers of food and drink both large and small, of which we believe we are one and look forward to building a strong relationship with them.” He added, “This opportunity will also allow Waitrose customers chance to sample the best this rural corner of East Yorkshire has to offer”.
Great Newsome Brewery’s ‘Frothingham Best’ received national media coverage in 2013 when it won a World Beer Award receiving the title the ‘Best Bitter up to 5%’ in both Europe and the World. More recently, it has picked a further World Beer Award in September and a coveted gold star in the Guild of Fine Foods, 2014 Great Taste Awards reaffirming its pedigree. ‘Sleck Dust’ meaning to quench the thirst, was the original beer brewed by the brewery back in 2007 and has been a firm favourite ever since. The light session beer has also inspired at least two song writers to pen tunes about it and also has been served in the Houses of Parliament.
Great Newsome Brewery uses old local dialect and points of interest to name its beers, like ‘Sleck Dust’, ‘Pricky Back Otchan’ and ‘Jem’s Stout’. Set up originally as a farm diversification and based on a working farm near Patrington just outside Hull, the brewery is able to use its own barley to brew its stunning range of beers. Having celebrated its 7th birthday in April, Great Newsome Brewery now supplies its award winning cask and bottles beers throughout the UK and to a growing overseas market.
