Family run Keelham Farm Shop celebrates Mother’s Day and raises funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care

Kids can pick up a hand-made gift for mum at Keelham Farm Shop this weekend and help raise money for local charity, Marie Curie Cancer Care. Little ones can get crafty and decorate a personalised plant pot for 50p ““ the perfect present to brighten up any mum’s day ““ with all proceeds going to the charity’s Bradford hospice.

Visitors can also purchase one of the 5,000 pots planted with Yorkshire Tête-à-Tête Daffodils in a variety of sizes, in celebration of the charity’s nation-wide ‘Great Daffodil Appeal’ which runs throughout March ““ with a donation made from every pot sold.

Keelham Farm Shop’s Victoria Robertshaw, a mum of three who runs the 40 year-old family business with her brother James, commented: “Our focus this month is to raise as much money as possible for our chosen cause, Marie Curie Cancer Care. It means so much to us to support charities who do such fantastic work in the local community and our wonderfully loyal customers always give as much as they can so I hope their support continues.”

The Mother’s Day painted pots mark the culmination of a month of fundraising for the charity at the Thornton-based farm shop. The Bradford hospice offers patients across Bradford and Ilkley with any terminal illness, access to nurses and carers who can support them and their families in the comfort of their own homes, as well as offering 16 beds where patients can stay for up to two weeks at a time.

Sharon Link – Fundraising Manager for Bradford, Calderdale & Craven said the centre cares for more than 1000 patients a year. “Keelham has been a fantastic supporter raising many thousands for us over the years. It costs approximately £3.5 million a year to run the Bradford hospice of which only 40% comes from the CCG (NHS Clinical Commissioning Group) – the rest we have to fundraise. Last year the Daffodil appeal in Bradford raised about £37,000 and we’re hoping with supporters like Keelham, alongside another 138 supermarkets and street collectors in the area, we’ll smash that target this year.”

In time for spring, award-winning Keelham Farm Shop has also re-opened its rejuvenated home and garden centre, which includes a flower market offering an abundance of bouquets to spoil that special someone on Mother’s Day. The shop also offers a range of thoughtful gifts, from bespoke baking kits, to hearty hampers and beautiful bouquets. Keelham is also offering every mum who shops with them on Saturday 29th or Sunday 30th March, a special Mother’s Day treat.

Keelham is open Monday ““ Friday 8am to 8pm, Saturday 8am ““ 7pm and Sunday, including Mother’s Day 30th March, 9am to 6pm.
