Game Dinner – in celebration of The Glorious 12th

An award winning coaching inn on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors have created a special menu in honour of the Glorious 12th.

Created by Head Chef Alan O’ Kane and his team at The Black Swan in Helmsley, the bespoke menu Game Dinner, which costs £49 per person, will be available exclusively between Saturday 12th August and Saturday 19th August, and will of course include grouse sourced from the local moorlands close to the hotel.

Fed on young heather, the game has a delicate taste and is highly sought after.  Unlike other game birds such as pheasant and partridge, which are farm reared and managed, the red grouse is native to the moorlands of Northern England and Scotland where the heather on which it feeds grows.

A popular haunt for those who love country sports in the area, the boutique hotel benefits from the 101 day season which runs until 10th December and contributes hugely to the rural economy through land management, hospitality and traditional craftsmanship.
