Mariners Coffee Merchants of York have been awarded 2 Gold Stars in the Great Taste Awards 2014 for their Ethiopia: Kaffa Forest Estate organic single estate coffee beans. Hand roasted by George in Mariners’ own roastery in James Street, York, this high quality coffee is “Smooth, with tons of body and a satisfying mouthfeel; well made. Bright and lively with some nuttiness behind. Rich in flavour and with good length” This award of 2 Gold Stars for 2014 follows on from an award of 1 Gold Star for 2013 for their Kenya: Kagumoini Co-Operative coffee beans.
The coffee is grown at high altitude on the margins of the Kaffa Forest in Ethiopia. Shade grown between 1600m and 1800m above sea-level, this coffee is a washed Limu varietal of pure Caffea Arabica. The Kaffa Forest is also home to the last of Ethiopia’s mountain lions.
