Historic York Hotel hosts dinner and whisky tasting event with Yorkshire’s first whisky distillery

Yorkshire’s first whisky distillery is teaming up with an historic York hotel for an evening of fine dining and whisky tasting.

On 8th February, Middlethorpe Hall will host a four course dinner and whisky tasting in conjunction with Hunmanby based Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery.

Middlethorpe Hall is a William III country house set in 20 acres of gardens and parkland, yet just two miles from York’s city centre.  Built in 1699, it was once the home of the famous diarist, Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, and today it is renowned for its excellent food, luxurious accommodation and boutique Spa.

Guests will enjoy a Wold Top beer reception, and a four course dinner before tasting a selection of Spirit of Yorkshire’s Maturing Malts.

Spirit of Yorkshire’s Whisky Director Joe Clark will be leading the tasting and said: “All of our Maturing Malt expressions started life as barley growing in the fields at our farm on the top of the Yorkshire Wolds back in 2015. The barley was transformed into spirit in 2016, and after a sleepy couple of years in our warehouse, it is now yours to enjoy at this unique event.

“In addition to a delicious four-course dinner in beautiful surroundings, you will be tasting our latest releases of Maturing Malt and some one-off and special cask samples. These samples offer a unique and unrepeatable glimpse into our warehouse and maturation as our spirit edges ever closer to becoming the first Yorkshire single malt whisky.”

Tickets cost £89.50 and include a welcome drink, a four course dinner, wines and samples of the Maturing Malt. They are available online at middlethorpe.wearegifted.co.uk, by calling Julia Betteridge on 01904 661301 or emailing j.betteridge@middlethorpe.com .
