Hornsea farm shop celebrates the humble banger for British Sausage Week

An award-winning Hornsea Farm Shop and Cafe is joining in the annual celebration of the traditional British Banger by launching a foodie competition.
William’s Farm Kitchen will celebrate British Sausage Week from 3rd to 9th November with a series of promotions and a competition to reveal people’s favourite banger based meals.
William’s Farm Kitchen owner, Mark Farnsworth said: “Every day, five million Britons eat sausages. 48%* of these are eaten as part of an evening meal, that’s more than at any other time of the day.
“There are so many great recipes for sausage casseroles and cassoulet that the humble banger often gets written off by the adventurous chef, but they can make the base of a great meal. We are keen to know how people are using them and we will put all the recipes and suggestions onto our Facebook page.
“All people have to do is send an e mail to mark@williamsfarmkitchen.co.uk stating their favourite sausage based meal or recipe to be in with a chance to win one of three half day Sausage Masterclasses.”
During the Masterclass, the winners will be able to try their own hand at making some sausages. From mincing the pork to linking the finished product, William’s Farm Kitchen’s award winning butchers will take you through the whole process.
The winners will be selected by an independent judge on 10th November.
William’s Farm Kitchen sells 15 types of sausages that are all made from premium shoulder meat from outdoor reared pigs that come from Anna Happy Trotters at Howden. The sausages have won several awards, including BPEX and the Guild of Fine Food Great Taste gold stars. They are available in the Farm Shop and nationwide via the website.
Sausages were nicknamed bangers during the Second World War. Their high water content due to the scarcity of other ingredients meant that they were liable to explode when cooked as the water turned to steam. British Sausage Week is an annual celebration of the taste, quality and diversity of the traditional British Banger and features a selection of Cook Offs, competitions and tastings nationwide.
William’s Farm Kitchen is an award-winning farm shop, butchery and cafĂ©. It has established an excellent reputation for its great value local food and its food based events that include Meet the Producer Days and Steak Nights.
