Introducing Harrogate’s independent drive in!

A Harrogate company, best known for their award-winning spirts have created a drive-in shop for customers to buy products from local independents during the lockdown period.

Harrogate Tipple, run by husband and wife team Steve and Sally Greenfrom their base in Ripley near Harrogate created the new shop to help support small brands who have seen a dramatic drop in their sales.

Owner Steve said: “The Coronavirus pandemic has affected everyone, including the local independent businesses that make Harrogate and the surrounding area such a wonderful place to live and work.

“We wanted to help and we’re lucky to have a fantastic space here at our Ripley distillery so decided to create a drive-in market to sell their products alongside our own, whilst still sticking to social distancing regulations.”

Steve and Sally first thought of this idea having seen the situation with UK supermarkets and feeling uncomfortable with the safety measures in place and took inspiration from Australian style drive-ins where customers park up and have their beer orders put straight into their cars!

By using the new drive-in, customers are helping to support not only local producers but cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants as well as the people that work for them.

Steve continues: “Customers park outside our shop, check the daily boards for specials and let us know their order. We’ll take a contactless payment and place your order in the boot of your car.”

The drive-in market at the Distillery, which is located behind the Boar’s Head in Ripley will be open Monday – Friday from 9-5pm and customers are welcome to see what’s available on the day or pre-purchase online and collect once the order is ready.

Amongst the products available to buy are fruit and veg boxes, local cheese, wine, spirits, beer, ice cream, plants, bread and brownies. A full list is available on their website www.harrogate-drive-in.myshopify.com
