JUST DESSERTS GETS A SLICE OF THE LOCAL PANTRY

Award-winning Yorkshire bakers and pâtissiers, Just Desserts of Shipley, suppliers of handmade desserts and pastries to the hospitality and foodservice sector, has added another food shop to its growing foodservice customer base. The Local Pantry, a new family run food shop and café, in Leathley, near Pool in Wharfedale, has selected the company as its patisserie supplier, as part of its commitment to champion Yorkshire produce.

The brainchild of former ASDA buyer, Suzannah Hepworth, The Local Pantry, on the A658 Harrogate Road, aims to offer the best local foods from Yorkshire producers and farmers and to provide a route to market for smaller, artisan businesses. Based on the site of the old Hunters garage, the food shop has been modernised with a brand new kitchen, café and shop and features stunning views of the Chevin.

Suzannah Hepworth, The Local Pantry commented: “We chose Just Desserts for their baking expertise, knowledge and local provenance. The family run company makes superb, traditionally handcrafted pastries and baked goods and we have selected their fruit tarts, lemon tarts, banoffi pies, lemon meringues and fat rascals to serve in our café and they are already proving popular with customers”

James O’Dwyer, managing director, Just Desserts said: “We are seeing encouraging signs within the burgeoning food/farm shop market and we are delighted to be chosen by The Local Pantry to supply our patisserie products. It is fantastic to see the demand by local customers for Yorkshire made products and for the passion and support of new businesses like The Local Pantry, who actively source and promote regional food and drink.”

Just Desserts was established by James O’Dwyer and his wife Carol in 1985 when they made their first handmade cake at the famous Salts Mill, Saltaire, Bradford and has since gained a first class reputation for providing the hospitality and food service industry with a range of high quality handmade desserts and quiches. It now employs 17 staff and earlier this year, the company invested a five figure sum in state of the art equipment to support its growth plans.
