Ilkley based Lishman’s Butchers has been crowned Supreme Champions in the Q Guild of Butchers 2020 Smithfield ‘Star’ Awards.
The family run business won diamond for the best product in the Innovative Sausage category with their Chilli Cheese Dogs, which was awarded a top-ranked 3 star rating, before being pitched against 12 other diamond winners and crowned as the overall winner in the entire competition.
The awards, which attract some 220 individual entries from the some of the country’s top butchers, were judged blind by an independent panel of food and meat experts headed by Keith Fisher, Chief Executive of the Institute of Meat.
The judging panel said: “Lishman’s Chilli Cheese Dogs are a fantastic looking and tasting product, with a great distribution of ingredients, a lovely taste, with the chilli not overpowering the lovely pork flavour.”
The now award-winning sausages are a true Yorkshire Frankfurter made with shoulder pork from RSPCA Freedom Food-accredited pigs, naturally beech smoked, then flavoured with cheddar and jalapenos.
Owner David Lishman, who is the current Q Guild of Butchers national chairman and runs the multi award-winning shop along with his daughter Emma and a 16-strong team, said: “We’re over the moon to be chosen as Smithfield ‘Star’ Awards Champion of Champions in the face of such strong competition from other leading fellow butchers nationwide. It is one of the highest accolades an independent Q Guild butcher can ever hope to attain. I dedicate it to our entire team.”
Lishman’s received a total of eight product awards, with two shortlisted as category finalists and a further three – 8oz Sirloin Steak, Beef Stroganoff and Smithfield Burger achieving the coveted 3 Stars.
