Local Brewery salutes town’s Olympic Medallist Lizzie Armitstead with bespoke beer

Pool-in-Wharfedale based independent brewery WharfeBank is celebrating the region’s Olympic success with their very own games inspired beer and is encouraging locals from the home-town of one of our Olympians to join them in a lovely pint of ‘Medal Pursuit.’
Inspired by Otley’s silver medal athlete Lizzie Armitstead, Medal Pursuit is now proving to be a popular drink at Wharfebank’s Otley riverside pub, The Fleece, as the town unites in toasting her success at the weekend.
Martin Kellaway, M.D of WharfeBank Brewery said: “WharfeBank is a company committed to our local heritage. We love being based in Yorkshire and are proud of the region. Lizzie’s success further highlights that this area is full of ambition and determination ““we were behind her from the start and love what she’s achieved and wanted to mark it with something fitting in our own special way”.
“We think it’s key she knows how proud her town is of her and we hope she gets the chance to come and have a drink when she gets back!”
Medal Pursuit is “A refreshing deep golden traditional bitter brewed using maris otter pale ale malt and English Pilgrim and Challenger hops, creating a wonderful session beer. Brewed to celebrate our Olympic successes and show our support for our own Yorkshire girl.”

The beer is available in The Fleece, at a discounted price throughout the Olympics, and the team look forward to continuing to support Yorkshires success.
