Magical March for East Yorkshire Micro-brewery

In what is proving to be a magical month for Wold Top Brewery, the Wold Newton microbrewery has been shortlisted for two Red Ribbon Awards for family businesses.

Hosted by Family Business Place, the Red Ribbon awards are the UK's only national awards that recognise the achievements of family-run companies of all sizes and across all sectors.

Wold Top Brewery has been shortlisted in two awards categories; ‘Tomorrow's Brand' and ‘Innovation' and face stiff competition from other family businesses including Doc Martens, Fudges Biscuits and The Cambridge Satchel Company.

Of the success, Kate Mellor, a fourth generation family member, said; "It's the first time that we have entered these awards and we're delighted to have been shortlisted in not one, but two categories. To be competing against big brands like Doc Martens is both amazing and scary, but at the end of the day, we're both family run businesses and face similar challenges, albeit on a different scale."

Anita Brightley-Hodges, Managing Director of Family Business Place says,"We were spoilt for choice with this year's nominations. From the hundreds who entered, we believe we've shortlisted six family businesses that all truly deserve to win each category. It's no secret that family-run businesses are the backbone of the UK economy. In times of uncertainty they are the last ones to make redundancies, keep a long-term view for the business and stay true to their founding values of integrity, trust and loyalty."

At Family Business Place we are honoured to present the Red Ribbon Awards to some of the best the sector has to offer and look forward to welcoming some of the UK's most loved family business names as well as small, undiscovered gems and announcing the winners in London on 5th July."

The winners will be announced at the 2013 Red Ribbon Awards Ceremony at the Lancaster London Hotel where finalists and their guests will enjoy a 3-course meal, live entertainment and a Charity Auction to raise money for Help for Heroes (supporting wounded servicemen and women) and Fields of Life (providing water, education and healthcare to families in East Africa).

Farm based Wold Top Brewery brews traditional real ale from home and Wolds grown malting barley, the finest hops and pure, chalk-filtered Wolds water. Its range of award winning ales is available through the website www.woldtopbrewery.co.uk, independent, family owned retailers, farm shops, delis, hotels, pubs and off licences throughout Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

In addition to the Red Ribbon success, in March Wold Top Brewery has also won two national brewing awards, the SIBA national Best Green Business Award and has been shortlisted for the Chairman's of East Yorkshire's Business Award for Businesses with Under 50 Employees.
