Maundy Money Recipient at The Grange Hotel

Mrs Beryl Cross, pictured on the left of the attached photo showing her two Maundy Money purses , with her husband Kenneth and their family, enjoying lunch in The Ivy Brasserie at *The Grange Hotel* following the Maundy Thursday Ceremony at York Minster today.

Mrs Cross from Little Weighton near Beverley was thrilled to be nominated to receive the Maundy Money from The Queen. _”It was such an honour to be at the ceremony and receive the Maundy Money from the Queen. It was a lovely occasion for me and my family who have travelled from Leicester to be with me today.”_ Said Mrs Cross.

She has been church warden at St Peter’s Rowley for 18 years and has lived in nearby Little Weighton for over 48 years. In addition to the work she does for the Church she also runs a weekly coffee morning in the local village hall.

A former rector of Rowley, Rev Ezekiel Rogers, emigrated to the American colonies in 1638 where he founded the town of Rowley Massachusetts. The emigrants sailed from Hull in the John, a merchant ship of around 200 tons in June 1638 and arrived in Salem Massachusetts in August.
