New in at the New Inn

The New Inn at Appletreewick in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales has begun a new chapter.

Rising to fame as the first non-smoking pub in 1971, new owners and locals Alexa and Chris Ives are bringing the establishment back to life with the aim to put it on the map as a haven for real ale and spirit lovers, as well as a destination for foodies looking for something significantly different.

No stranger to the hospitality business, Alexa has over eight years of experience working front of house at The Box Tree in Ilkley, whilst husband Chris founded Ilkley Brewery in 2009, and more recently both him and Alexa became founding partners in Otterbeck Distillery, creating their internationally award-winning Cotton Gin.

Whilst the New Inn’s interior and branding have been given an update, the kitchen has also received a new lease of life with the exciting appointment of new Head Chef and fellow local lad Mikael Paylor.

Learning his trade in London over the last two decades under a number of celebrated chefs, he was born and bred down the road in Grassington and will be joined in the kitchen by his partner, pastry chef Sian Stansfield.

New menus have been designed to celebrate exceptional locally sourced products alongside home-grown produce from their own extensive kitchen garden, beehives and medieval species of fruit trees, whilst the Inn’s six en-suite guest bedrooms offer spectacular views of the stunning Wharfedale countryside.

Owner Alexa said: “Whether people are hardened walkers wanting to stay and ‘do’ this section of the Dales Way or day visitors who just want an idyllic flat riverside walk before enjoying a memorable meal, we’re making sure the New Inn provides the hospitality to match.”
