New restaurant from the award-winning team behind Masons Yorkshire Gin

The team behind an award-winning North Yorkshire distillery have opened the doors of a brand-new restaurant in Bedale this week.

Masons Yorkshire Gin have launched Tom & Nellie’s on the high street of the popular market town which will offer diners beautiful food and drink from Wednesday – Saturday from 10am each week as well as traditional roasts on Sundays.

Owners and husband and wife team Cathy and Karl Mason have sensitively refurbished the Grade 2 listed building over the last four months and took on the project after the building, which was a former home of Cathy’s grandparents Tom and Nellie, became available.

Karl Mason said: “We are thrilled to be opening a restaurant that serves the people of Bedale and the surrounding area. Tom & Nellie lived in the building and worked as vergers for St Gregory’s church next door for many years and we look forward to throwing open the doors this week and welcoming people in.”

Cathy Mason added: “We couldn’t turn down the chance to do something with this fantastic building. After many happy family memories here with my grandparents Tom & Nellie – what an honour to open a restaurant here in their name.”

Tom and Nellie’s new Head Chef Norman Mackenzie who has previously cooked at The Feversham Arms and The Grand Hotel in York said: “I’m excited to be linking up with one of the finest producers North Yorkshire has and have the opportunity to build a great local neighbourhood restaurant.

“The new menu will offer a range of both traditional and innovative dishes from potato rostis with creamed seasonal mushrooms, parmesan and truffle oil to sweet potato hash with chilli and a fried egg. Whilst our evening menu will feature a fantastic array of choices with options for all dietary needs from seabass en papillote with heritage tomatoes, peppers, fennel and white wine to 8oz steaks served with chunky chips and king oyster mushroom gnocchi with salsify, foraged succulents and herbs.”
