North Yorkshire oil producer make its mark on Yorkshire food scene

The team at a Thixendale farming business is celebrating after its mayonnaise won a prestigious Yorkshire food award.

Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil’s Yorkshire Oak Smoked Mayonnaise was awarded Food Product of the Year at the 24th Yorkshire Life Food and Drink Awards that were held at the Rudding Park Hotel in Harrogate.

Over 150 of Yorkshire’s top producers and suppliers, chefs, restaurants, pubs and hoteliers attended the awards that reward excellence and champion the region’s food and drink industry.

Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil’s founder, Adam Palmer, said: “The Yorkshire Life Food and Drink Awards is one of the biggest events in the region’s calendar and we are very proud to be a part of it.

“To reach the final was amazing in itself, but to beat such stiff competition from Mackenzies Smokehouse and Ilkley Brewery to win the product of the year award is fantastic. We’re absolutely delighted!”

The mayonnaise is made from award-winning oak smoked Yorkshire rapeseed oil that is smoked over oak and Applewood chips by fellow artisan producer, Staal Smokehouse.

A 190g jar of Yorkshire Oak Smoked Mayonnaise retails at £3.50 and is available online at www.yorkshirerapeseedoil.co.uk and from farm shops, delis and independent retailers throughout Yorkshire.

Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil was established in 2008 by Adam and Jennie Palmer on their family farm in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds.  They produce a range of oils, dressing and mayonnaise based on their rapeseed oil that is produced exclusively from home and Yorkshire Wolds grown rape and blended, bottled and labelled on the family farm.
