A York-based artisan pickle producer is preparing for a busy summer ahead with the launch of her summer range.
“All the Puckett’s were seafarers so my Grandfathers would bring home lots of exotic spices and my Grandmothers would make them into chutneys and pickles,” explains Sarah.
“Using my Grandmother’s recipes Puckett’s Pickles is about celebrating the best seasonal Yorkshire and British produce, and in particular carrots, cucumbers, red onions and shallots which are all sourced locally.”
Combining exotic spices with Yorkshire favourites has certainly gained a legion of loyal fans since the business began, and Sarah now stocks a host of farm shops and independents throughout the region and beyond as well as being a regular at food shows and farmers markets.
The range includes a host of summer flavours as well as some old favourites with a twist including the Oriental Carrot, a yin and yang of sweet and sour which is perfect for salads and stir fry, and the Cucumber & Lemon, whose mellow flavours were inspired by gin and tonic and pair beautifully with fish.
Sarah describes her ever popular Pickled Red Onion as the perfect piquant summer accompaniment, pickled with Captain Puckett’s spice mix and best enjoyed with BBQ meats such as sausages, pork chops or burgers while her ‘Puckalilli’, a twist on a classic is sold as ‘spicily delicious and flag-wavingly British’ and perfect with cheese.
