Reclaim your lunch break this Christmas with the Countess of York

The Countess of York at the National Railway Museum is encouraging workers to reclaim their lunch break this Christmas by visiting the venue between 12-2pm on 1 and 2 December to sample its new festive afternoon tea menu.

_DSF3807Over the two days, the beautifully restored 1956 Pullman-style carriage will be offering visitors the chance to try some of its festive treats and teas, as well as participating in some Christmas-themed biscuit decorating.

Treats on offer for guests to sample will include turkey, sage and onion stuffing and cranberry chutney, and smoked salmon with horseradish and dill mayonnaise finger sandwiches, lightly curried cream of parsnip soup with toasted pumpkin seeds and freshly baked orange and cinnamon scones with vanilla enhanced clotted cream and homemade mulled plum preserve.

The new delectable fancies, which will also be available for guests to enjoy at the taster events, include a Baileys chocolate macaroon, Viennese mincemeat tart, iced Christmas fruit cake, baked white chocolate and cranberry cheesecake and cranberry cheesecake and a Christmas snowman (eggnog flavoured crème brulee).

_DSF3803Sam Waseem, Assistant Catering Manager at the National Railway Museum, says: “We are really looking forward to hosting these special tasting events to not only showcase the delicious and innovative treats that will feature on our new Winter menu, but to encourage people to head over to the museum at lunchtime and reclaim their lunch break. In the lead up to Christmas our working lives seem to get ever more hectic, and working through lunch is a common occurrence.

“We hope our two taster days at the Countess will act as an incentive for people to make the most of their lunch hour and experience the fabulous atmosphere of the Countess of York while enjoying a range of tempting Christmas treats.”

The Countess of York will also be running a Twitter competition in the first week of December encouraging their followers to share their #festivefeelings and tweet a picture of themselves wearing or doing something festive. The competition will run from 30th November – 6 December and tweets need to include the hashtag #CountessChristmas. The winner will receive a complimentary afternoon tea for two on-board the Countess of York.
