Rounton Coffee subscribers double as ‘bean boom’ continues

Demand for a North Yorkshire coffee roaster’s subscription service has doubled in the last year, amid an ongoing post-pandemic ‘bean boom’.

Over the last 12 months Rounton Coffee’s subscription model has soared in popularity with the independent roaster currently gaining around 100 new sign-ups each month.

Having started life in 2013 at local farmers’ markets, the company has grown into a true regional success story.

Gaining a loyal following of customers, the team launched a subscription service in 2020 to help quench what founder David Beattie said has been an undying thirst for quality coffee.

“When Covid forced cafes and coffee shops to close, people pivoted and started brewing better quality at home. In lockdown, a good quality cup of coffee was one of the things people realised that they missed most. It meant there was an unprecedented demand for every gadget going, but also the coffee itself.”

While instant coffee demand has slowed, with products also hit by ‘shrinkflation’, independent roasters like Rounton Coffee have enjoyed a boom since the pandemic.

David continues: “I think as more people are working from home, quality coffee has become a big part of their day, and I think people are becoming bolder and braver with their beans.”

“Additionally, people are really busy, so I think having the peace of mind that their coffee will arrive at their doorstep gives them one less thing to think about.”

As well as the popular ‘subscribe and save’ service, Rounton Coffee customers can also subscribe to their fastest-growing model – the Roaster’s Choice, which delivers a different unique speciality coffee to their door each month, handpicked by Rounton’s Head of Coffee, Jamiel El-Sharif.
