An award-winning Harrogate based Indian cuisine company are set to launch their new range of ready meals into Waitrose stores this month.
Saffron Tree’s authentic Indian ready meals range will be available to buy from a selected number of the prestigious supermarkets stores from next week.
The new stockist is the first major supermarket listing for Saffron Tree, whose range of products are currently available both online and through independent retailers nationwide.
Founder Monalisa Fathima, who created the range based on her own family’s recipes said: “I’m absolutely delighted that Waitrose customers will soon be able to buy our range. I was taught to cook from an early age whilst growing up in India and my ready meals are all based on authentic Indian recipes that have been passed down from my family and friends.
“One of the biggest inspirations for the ready meal recipes was my grandmother who taught me to cook. She was also a great storyteller and told her a story of ‘The Magic Saffron Tree’ which grew in a shady courtyard in their hometown of Hyderabad. The elusive tree, so the story goes, when it blossoms, yielded the most aromatic saffron imaginable and the company name and brand are inspired by this.”
Founded in 2019, the Saffron Tree range is made using the best quality ingredients as well as fresh, locally sourced meat and was created with the aim of offering customers restaurant-quality food in the comfort of their own home. With every effort to source locally and support other regional suppliers, Saffron Tree’s packaging has also been designed to be environmentally friendly with all their paperboard trays and sleeves recyclable.
Saffron Tree’s range includes curries not typically seen in other supermarket Indian ready meal ranges and Waitrose will initially be stocking their Dum Ka Murg (tender pieces of chicken in a delicately spiced masala sauce) and the Achari Murg (tender pieces of chicken in a spicy achari masala sauce) along with a Vegetable Korma and side dishes including Aloo Methi Potatoes and Bagara Rice.
