Second Sainsbury’s Success for Yorkshire Coast Brewery

An award winning Yorkshire Coast brewery is celebrating after reaching the finals of Sainsbury’s Great British Beer Hunt for the second consecutive year.

Wold Newton based Wold Top Brewery entered its new beer Scarborough Fair IPA into the national competition that guarantees a listing with the supermarket for the ultimate winners and was delighted to beat stiff competition to become the only Yorkshire beer to make the final shortlist of 20 ales.

Scarborough Fair IPA (6% ABV) is a golden amber ale that is triple hopped with a malty sweetness and will go on sale in Sainsbury’s stores for its three week national Drinks Festival from 12th September. The two best selling shortlisted beers from each region will go forward to a grand final on 5th October and two beers will be announced as the overall winners. The prize is a minimum six-month listing in Sainsbury’s stores across the UK from November onwards.

Commenting on the success, Brewery director Tom Mellor said; “The Sainsbury’s competition is a fantastic way for small regional brewers like us to get national coverage. We’re really proud to be flying the flag for the Yorkshire Wolds and look forward to Scarborough Fair IPA being available all over the UK.”

Sainsbury’s customers and beer experts judged more than 100 beers from across the UK in five regional beer hunt events. The other shortlisted breweries from North of England Beer Hunt were Batemans from Lincolnshire, JW Lees from Manchester and Beartown Brewery from Cheshire
