Spirit of Yorkshire distillery marks its first decade with permanent additions to its core range.

Yorkshire’s first whisky distillery is marking 10 years of producing world-class whisky by adding two new releases to its core range.

Hunmanby-based Spirit of Yorkshire distillery has reached another key milestone in its long-term planning and maturation and added Moscatel Sherry Cask and STR Red Wine Cask whiskies to sit alongside their Filey Bay Flagship to form a core range of three single malt whiskies.

Whisky director Joe Clark said: “Since 2020, we have steadily been releasing limited edition batches of whisky, which we referred to as finishes. This range of whiskies has been a major part of showcasing the breadth of flavour from our distillery and spotlighting different flavour profiles by using different cask types.

“The two standout favourites in these batches have been whiskies finished in Moscatel and STR casks, so we decided to mark our first decade by committing more spirit to these cask types, making them a permanent part of our core range, and giving all three whiskies a stunning new look.”

Distilled in ex-Moscatel Sherry Hogsheads, Filey Bay Moscatel Sherry Cask, 47.3%, is described as a meeting of Spanish sweetness and spirited Yorkshire character, with flavours of citrus, honey, milk chocolate, toasted nuts and apricot.

Filey Bay STR Red Wine Cask, 47.3%, is matured in shaved, toasted and re-charred ex-red wine casks, which bring a balanced and nuanced maturation to the light, fruity distillery style. It is described as soft and malty with flavours of biscuit, marzipan, boiled sweets and red fruits.

Both whiskies are Single Estate, from field to bottle, made with 100% homegrown regeneratively farmed barley and are available now from the distillery, online and from specialist retailers nationwide.
