This Little Piggy went to Tuscany

As the country goes back to its traditional roots and demands honest quality meat, with great taste, a local Company has listened and is responding to these demands.

Carl and Sarah Slingsby, owners of the Greedy Little Pig based in Shelley, Huddersfield, are a couple on a mission. Having developed their Hog Roast business from July 2011 and served many thousands of satisfied customers with delicious Hog Roast Sandwiches, at weddings, bbq’s, corporate events and food & drink festivals. The couple is now developing its range of Charcuterie.

At the start of this year, The Company began trading its Warm & Mellow Chorizo on Amazon, determined to allow the UK to sample the great flavours of its Greedy Little Pig Yorkshire Chorizo.

In addition Carl has also been developing a range of Charcuterie which is now being served in local and regional restaurants.

Carl Slingsby said ‘We have seen a rapid increase in the demand for our authentic Charcuterie over the last 18 months. I love the Artisan way of curing Pork and have a passion for developing techniques and flavours into our Charcuterie.’

To help develop his skills further, Carl has recently completed an intensive Salumi course in Tuscany, Italy.
The course is organized by Heather Jarman, Director Sapori e Saperi Adventures.
They specialise in authentic artisan gastronomic tours and courses.
Heather said “Our guests not only visit electronically invisible Tuscan artisans, but also get their hands into the food, as they make sausages & charcuterie with Italian specialists. We are also invited to share the delicious home cooked meals made in local Italian homes, with my Italian friends. It’s full immersion in the rural lifestyle of little known parts of Tuscany. Having the Greedy Little Pig visit was a great meeting of Yorkshire & Tuscan ideas and customs!’

Carl Slingsby said ‘This course has opened my mind to the extensive & wonderful range of other Charcuterie that is made everyday in Tuscany, not just the famous Cured meats and Salami, many of which are not really known about or produced in the UK. It was fantastic to see generations of experts using all their care, love, skill and passion to make these delicious products. I am excited for our customers who will have the opportunity to sample our Tuscany inspired Charcuterie in the coming months.’
