A family run business producing a range of free from products from their base in Whixley near York are celebrating after winning a national award.
Voakes Free From, run by husband-and-wife team, Nick and Laura Voakes were awarded Product of the Year for their traditional Scotch Egg at the Free From Awards which took place at a ceremony in London recently.
Alongside the top accolade the North Yorkshire business also picked up a further 4 Silver Medals and a coveted Gold for products in their artisan range which specialise in producing handmade, gluten-free pies and pastries, using pork from pigs reared on the family farm.
Founded in 2012 after Laura was diagnosed with Coeliac disease and faced a pastry free future, the team set about creating a range, alongside sister company Voakes Pies, which was founded by Nick’s father Andrew, to cater for those with special dietary requirements.
Now producing their award-winning range from a purpose-built production unit, providing a superb, quality-controlled gluten and wheat free environment to ensure that the high standards required for the category can be maintained throughout, the business has recently expanded into producing products for customers following vegetarian and vegan diets too, meaning that everyone can enjoy the famous quality and flavour that Voakes have become known for.
