West Yorkshire cheesemonger gears up for Le Grand Fromage Départ

A West Yorkshire cheesemongers will be embarking on their very own Grand Fromage Depart adventure at the end of March to celebrate the start of the Grand Depart 100 day cultural festival & the tour coming to Yorkshire.

Cryer and Stott who are based in Allerton Bywater Castleford will be upping sticks and leaving West Yorkshire for a 3 day tour of France to showcase some of Yorkshire’s most iconic cheeses as well as collecting some of France’s finest fromage.

Over the 3 days, Director Richard Holmes a real guru of cheese and Business Development Manager Jemma Flowers will be visiting 6 towns & cities throughout France, all of which are twinned with towns in Yorkshire that The Grand Depart will tour.

Richard says: “This started as a bit of fun, but some other Yorkshire companies got wind of our idea and it’s just snowballed! We’re really lucky to have secured some fantastic partners in the form of Leeds Bradford Airport & Jet2.com, it’s their involvement that has made our “cheese dream” come true!”

The duo from Cryer and Stott will be collecting local cheeses in every town & city they visit, as well as collecting recipes and discovering the story and the people behind each town’s artisan creamery. They will be visiting Rungis market & cheese affineurs across Paris.

During the tour Richard & Jemma will be showcasing an artisan Yorkshire cheeseboard at The British Embassy in Paris, something the Ambassador has welcomed.

Jemma says: ”It’s amazing! We will be meeting Suzanne Ricketts the ambassador’s wife & the embassy’s head chef Cedric Magri to put together a Yorkshire cheese menu. I am so proud that the ambassador has embraced Tour De France coming to Yorkshire & welcoming Cryer & Stott into the embassy”.

Richard says: “Provenance is something we’re really passionate about at Cryer and Stott so we’re really excited to find out the stories behind these cheeses as well as tasting them. It’s going to be really interesting to see what the French think of our Yorkshire cheese board, but we’re confident they’ll love it as much as we do! We have already had strong interest from a large distributor in Lille to stock our unique cheeses Rhuby Crumble & Yorkshire Cask.

But that’s not all! once back on their home turf Cryer and Stott will touring Yorkshire and carrying out some cheese tasting master classes to educate cheese fans, tell the story of their journey round France and celebrate their favourite Yorkshire cheeses.
