Yorkshire Blue Cheese Goes National at Sainsbury’s

Artisan cheese producers Shepherds Purse Cheeses are to have their award-winning Yorkshire Blue stocked nationwide in 300 Sainsbury’s stores.

The family-run business based near Thirsk in North Yorkshire, use 100% Yorkshire cow’s milk to create the award-winning cheese, which is then matured for eight weeks, allowing it to develop a soft, creamy texture and mellow blue flavour.

Katie Matten, Managing Director at Shepherds Purse Cheeses, said: “We’re thrilled to bring our beloved Yorkshire Blue to Sainsbury’s customers nationally. This partnership represents a perfect pairing: Shepherds Purse’s commitment to artisan cheese-making and Sainsbury’s dedication to offering high-quality, local products across the UK.

“Yorkshire Blue has been a local favourite for over 20 years in Sainsbury’s, and we’re excited for it to become a favourite among Sainsbury’s customers nationwide.”

A second-generation family run business; Shepherds Purse was founded by Judy Bell MBE in 1989. For over three decades their dedicated team, now headed up my daughters Katie Matten and Caroline Bell have crafted an exceptional range of handcrafted cheeses using their own unique twists on traditional methods, receiving numerous industry awards along the way for quality and taste across the globe, including Yorkshire Blue winning Best English Cheese at the International Cheese & Dairy Awards in 2018.
