Yorvale launch Pigs in Blankets ice cream into Aldi

Ice cream producer Yorvale have landed their biggest ever contact to supply supermarket Aldi, after winning Channel 4’s ‘Aldi’s Christmas Secrets’.

The programme, which aired before Christmas saw a range of British suppliers pitch for a spot on the supermarket’s shelves in the run up to the festive season, and the North Yorkshire based company run by husband and wife team Ian and Lesley Buxton, came out on top with their quirky Pigs in Blankets Ice Cream.

Launched into stores on the 19th December, the programme showed their product wowing Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, and Communications Director Richard Thornton, with its smooth texture and savoury-sweet pork flavour with salted smoked maple syrup.

Owner Lesley, who has been in dairy farming for more than 30 years, said: “We knew it had to be unusual, so we set about looking at typical Christmas flavours that might work in ice cream.

“We experimented with different flavour profiles; Brussel sprouts, bacon and chestnut, port-soaked cranberries, blue cheese and smoky bacon, and even a Christmas spiced ‘Cuthbert’ the carrot cake, but finally landed on pigs in blankets as it was by far the best, and most festive tasting of them all!”

Husband Ian added: “This is our first ever Aldi contract, and an order of 25,000 is absolutely life changing.

“It’s great to think the whole country could be tucking into our Pigs in Blankets ice cream and we hope it brings a smile to everyone’s faces.”
