Young motorcycle champ races ahead with ice cool Sponsorship

West Yorkshire ice cream producer Yummy Yorkshire has announced that it will be supporting a young motorcycle champion from Skelmanthorpe, Huddersfield, as he races towards his goal of winning two championships this year.

The help from Yummy Yorkshire will allow Reece Pickersgill, who is 12 and rides a Kawasaki 85cc small wheel enduro bike, to buy his 2014 kit and compete in races across the UK.

Reece started racing at the age of 8 and has already made a name for himself since he took up the sport four years ago. He has won over 50 tournaments gaining first, second and third place including the Junior Class in the Pro-Clean winter series and the Junior Class in the Northern Counties Hare & Hounds Championships.

His goals for this season are to win the Ride Off Road Championships in the Youth B Class and the WOR Events races, also in the Youth B Class. He will also be taking part in some Youth Iron Man and extreme events.

Commenting on the sponsorship Reece says: “I am very grateful to Yummy Yorkshire for sponsoring me and excited to have them on board. They are supporting my race season and helping me pursue my dream of racing professionally.”

Louise Holmes, co-founder of Yummy Yorkshire adds: “Reece’s dad, Glen Pickersgill, owns the building company who extended the ice cream parlour for us and recently built us a new office and storage area. When we heard that his son was looking for a sponsor to support his motor cycle racing this year it felt like a good fit; he is a very talented rider. As well as providing him with financial support, we hope that we can also help raise his profile on a more local level.”

On Saturday 19 April, Reece will be giving a public display of his skills during a special Motocross Day at Yummy Yorkshire. Members of the public are invited to come along to the free event and see Reece riding round an assault course on the farm.

Displays will take place at 12pm, 2pm and 3.30pm and there will also be a free bouncy castle, large go-kart circuit and face painting. A BBQ selling locally sourced steak, burgers and hotdogs will also be on offer.
