Award-winning Halifax sauce company YoYo Laos Sauce has teamed up with Leeds-born Thai street food restaurant group ZAAP to launch the “Mekong” Bundle, a four-bottle collection bringing together two of the North’s most distinctive Southeast Asian kitchens.
Named after the river that runs between Laos and Thailand, the bundle pairs YoYo’s two flagship Lao sauces with two restaurant-kitchen sauces created by ZAAP founder and executive chef Yupha “Ban” Kaewkraikhot.
The collaboration brings together two founders who each left Southeast Asia for West Yorkshire and built businesses around the food they missed from home.
Hatsadee “Yoyo”, who grew up helping her mother sell ginger, chilli and garlic at a local market in Laos, began recreating traditional Lao sauces in her Halifax kitchen before turning them into a brand now stocked by Ocado.
Ban has built a multi-award-winning restaurant group since opening the first ZAAP in Leeds in 2015. Capturing the vibrant energy of a Bangkok night market, it has since expanded to eight locations across the North of England.
The two international cuisines share more than a geographical border, with both loving chilli, fresh herbs and big, balanced flavours.
Hatsadee “Yoyo”, founder of YoYo Laos Sauce, said: “When I started making sauces in my kitchen in Halifax, I just wanted a taste of home. Lao food is still unknown to a lot of people in the UK, so putting our sauces next to Ban’s, from a cuisine everyone already loves, felt like the perfect introduction. Two neighbours, two kitchens, one bundle. I think people are going to have a lot of fun with it.”
The new box includes Great Taste Award-winning YoYo’s Original Ginger Chilli and Pineapple, Chilli & Roasted Pepper Hot Sauces, alongside ZAAP’s Spicy Sriracha and Pad Thai Sauces.
