Yummy Yorkshire opens up land for Tour de France pop-up campsite

Huddersfield ice cream producer and dairy farm Yummy Yorkshire will be opening up its land as a temporary campsite for the Tour de France to help cater for the thousands of visitors who will descend on the area when the world-famous cycle race arrives.

The opening stage of the Tour de France will begin in the first weekend of July and travel through Yorkshire for two days. Yummy Yorkshire’s farm is just four miles from the route of stage two of the Grand Départ, which will pass from York to Sheffield on 6 July.

Yummy Yorkshire’s pop-up campsite will offer 4m x 4m non-electric pitches for tents or campervans at £30 a night with free parking and flushable male and female toilets. According to Yummy Yorkshire co-owner Jeremy Holmes, the field ear-marked for the campsite will hold up to 50 pitches.

An added bonus for campers is Yummy Yorkshire’s on-site ice cream parlour and coffee shop which will be opening up early on the morning of the 6 July ““ customers will be able to enjoy freshly cooked food and hot drinks (not to mention ice cream) from 6am onwards and also buy milk, water, bread and eggs.

In celebration of Le Grand Départ Yummy Yorkshire will also be hosting a celebration evening on Saturday July 5 with live entertainment, a DJ, a bar serving local cider, wine and beer and a hog roast and desserts with a French twist. The event is open to both members of the public and campers but tickets must be purchased in advance.

Speaking about the pop-up campsite and event Jeremy says: “The Tour de France is one of the world’s greatest sporting events and we are excited that it is passing so close to us here at Yummy Yorkshire. An estimated 120,000 people are expected to turn up for the iconic Holme Moss climb, so demand for camp sites is high. Thousands of pitches are already booked up, both at established campsites and temporary pop-up sites, so we thought it made sense to use some of our land to provide more camping opportunities.

“We want to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity and hope that others will come and party with us during an unforgettable weekend.”

Tickets will be available for purchase from March 1 at £22.50 per person.
