Brewers saddle up for Hornsea charity Sportive

Brewery staff from a Wold Newton micro brewery are saddling up to compete in a popular Holderness Sportive to raise money for local causes.
Colleagues from the Wold Top Brewery are joining forces with William’s Farm Kitchen to support the second annual sportive by providing liquid refreshment at the end of the race and by entering a Wold Top Team.
Cyclists can choose from either a 60k or 100k route, but both take advantage of the undulating traffic free lanes of Holderness and East Yorkshire and feature William’s Farm Kitchen’s award winning flapjack at the feed station and burgers and Wold Top Brewery’s Tour de France inspired beer, Hello Vélo at the finish.
Both routes have been chosen to cater for cyclists of all abilities and the lack of significant climbs will see riders able to choose between a leisurely ride or a fast paced training ride. The ride will take you through some fantastic winding, largely traffic free lanes reminiscent of Europe’s cycling heartlands of Belgium and Holland.
Organised by Paul Kilvington (the man behind Hull Thursday Road Club’s very popular Big G) and Mark Farnsworth of William’s Farm Kitchen, this year’s event takes place on Sunday 22nd June 2014 and is based at Williams Farm kitchen at Hornsea Freeport. The entry cost is £25 for both distances and entry is online via Sports Entry Solutions at http://bit.ly/1paqh8H. There is a limit of 350 places and these are filling fast.
Mark Farnsworth is delighted to host the event again and said: “Last year we had 240 riders set off on a tour of Holderness and we raised £800 for Hornsea Rotary club which they use to support local causes. This year we are hoping to attract 350 riders and raise £1000 for Rotary.
“We are delighted that Wold Top are supporting us again with this event, the riders loved a cool beer last year and with the popularity of cycling growing all the time I hope we will have another full event this year and they will all deserve a decent pint at the end!”
Dubbed the “Yellow Jersey” of cycling beers, Hello Vélo (4.2% ABV) is a sparkling crisp ale with an earthy spiciness and honeyed marmalade overtones. It is a completely British beer that is brewed using predominantly home grown barley, the farm’s pure, chalk filtered water and UK grown Goldings and First Gold hops.
Farm based Wold Top Brewery is situated only 12 miles away from Scarborough. It brews traditional real ale from home and Wolds grown malting barley, the finest hops and chalk-filtered water from the farm’s own borehole. Its range of award winning ales is also available through the website, independent, family owned retailers, farm shops, delis, hotels, pubs and off licences throughout Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
Established in 2011, William’s Farm Kitchen is an award-winning farm shop, butchery and café. It has established an excellent reputation for its great value local food and its local producer days. In addition to the Sportive, William’s Farm Kitchen will also host a Family Cycle Ride on 10th August.
