An East Yorkshire poultry business has launched a new range of higher welfare chicken.
Middleton on the Wolds based Soanes Poultry’s new range was launched in response to huge customer demand for high quality chicken that has more room to roam and will be available exclusively online through their website.
Director of Sales and Marketing, Ben Lee explains: “We’ve been supplying Higher Welfare chicken to trade customers in London and wanted a way to satisfy consumer demand for this chicken nationwide.
“We’ve worked closely with Leven based web designers, Harper Creative to launch a shopping portal as part of our new website and we’re delighted with the outcome and that our customers will now have access to this range.”
The multi award winning company have been rearing and preparing chicken on the family farm and at neighbouring farms in the Yorkshire Wolds since 1947, supplying chicken to butchers and independent retailers throughout Yorkshire and to wholesalers nationwide.
Each farm has a dedicated manager and a Health Specialist oversees and conducts independent audits across each of the family run companies sites in the region.
The Higher Welfare chickens live in light, airy barns with natural light and ventilation, have 20% more room than Soanes Poultry’s standard chickens and also have access to enrichment items to stimulate their natural behaviours.
Claire Wright, Managing Director of Clive Soanes Broilers, who rear the chickens to the assured higher welfare standards said: “We use the AssureWel welfare outcome assessment protocol for chicken to help us to continually assess the welfare of our flocks.
“As part of these standardised assessments, we look at a number of key health and welfare outcomes for our chickens, such as the birds’ gait score, their interaction with enrichment items and a number of other active behaviours such as running, sparring and wing flapping.”
Soanes Poultry’s Higher Welfare Chicken is available to buy exclusively through their website www.soanespoultry.co.uk and the range includes whole chicken, portions, diced chicken and a Taste of Yorkshire mixed box. All deliveries are made using DPD’s Carbon Neutral Delivery Service and are available nationwide.
