Two award-winning farms in the Yorkshire Dales have collaborated to create an innovative new product.
Hesper, near Malham, was the first farm in Britain to produce skyr in 2015 and is still the only farm making it using British milk and an original Icelandic skyr culture. The team have been working with Yockenthwaite Farm, who produce a range of award-winning small-batch granolas to launch a unique skyr and granola snack pot.
Hesper owner Sam Moorhouse said: “Both Hesper Farm and Yockenthwaite Farm are established dales farms and our respective families have both farmed here and known each other for generations.
“As markets have changed we’ve each had to look at other ways of working and diversifying. We’ve separately diversified in different ways but are excited to be able to work together and unite our products with this collaboration.
“We’re two young farmers looking to work in innovative ways to take our products forward for the future and create something people will really enjoy.”
David Hird of Yockenthwaite Farm said: “We are originally hill sheep farmers but diversified into making cereals more than ten years ago. The opportunity to work with Sam on a product that celebrates the best of British farming and the best of British produce has been fantastic.
“Our slow-baked granola clusters – made fresh to order ever time – really complement Hesper’s smooth, creamy skyr. It’s the perfect delicious high protein, low fat on-the-go combined snack, which doesn’t compromise on quality or flavour.”
The collaboration has launched with an innovative ‘origami’ lid which folds easily into a spoon, in a bid to cut down on unnecessary additional plastic.
The new on-the-go pots have launched in two flavours – Raspberry & Hibiscus skyr and Cold Brew Coffee & Vanilla skyr each topped with Real Oaty granola.
The new products will be available in selected Morrisons stores, Booths stores across the north of England and at independent retailers throughout the country.
