Food tour de Yorkshire

A Yorkshire restaurant is celebrating completing the first stage of their own tour of Yorkshire, though this one doesn’t involve a bike.

PrashadPrashad, Yorkshire’s only 2 AA Rosette Indian restaurant are undertaking a culinary trip around the county, seeking new suppliers for their busy vegetarian restaurant in Drighlington.

Minal Patel, head chef at Prashad explains: “Yorkshire is a veritable larder of food, and it just keeps getting better. Sourcing locally makes so much sense in terms of freshness, reduced food miles and supporting local growers.”

However, it’s not just traditional fruit and vegetables that Prashad are looking to source.

“Herbs are such an important part of our recipes, but sourcing a broad range that are truly fresh can be difficult. When Herbs Unlimited near Thirsk popped onto our radar earlier this year, we were delighted. They have over 45 herbs and 10 edible flowers across 90 acres, including several new varieties we haven’t tried before.”

Alison Dodd, managing director and founder of Herbs Unlimited commented: “as a former chef myself, I understand the importance of fresh herbs. We’re as excited as Minal to see our herbs and flowers in the dishes at Prashad.”

“Finding Herbs Unlimited has come at the right time for us, especially as we’re now looking to create some new recipes. We’re really intrigued to see how some of their more specialist herbs will bring a new touch of Yorkshire to our Indian recipes.” adds Patel.
