Golden Yorkshire Rum added to offering from Yorkshire Dales Distillery

A Yorkshire drinks firm are celebrating the launch of their newest offering, a Yorkshire Rum.

Yorkshire Dales Distillery, based at Colburn, near Catterick in North Yorkshire have just completed its first bottling of the new Intrepid Ram Golden Yorkshire Rum, a Caribbean spirit distilled in with Yorkshire heather flowers and honey from local hives.

Unusually in the UK and in a first for Yorkshire, the Rum has then been oak aged at the Distillery before being reduced to a bottling strength of 45% abv.

Founded in 2016 by husband and wife team Tony and Sarah Brotherton, the craft distillery was started with the aim of prioritising the employment and training of young people, the long term unemployed, veterans and ex-offenders.

Located on the edge of the Dales, it has rapidly become established in the community that is seeks to serve and in addition to its own range of spirits, the distillery creates, develops, distils and bottles products for a growing number of large and small businesses.

Owner and Co-Founder Sarah said: “The team have worked very hard on the creation and development of an exceptional rum and we are very pleased to have reached the landmark of first bottling.

“In a year that has seen the Distillery grow from 2 to 7 staff, we have stuck to our core principles of local sourcing, genuine small batch production and the use of Swale valley water for all aspects of our work.  Intrepid Ram is an exciting addition to the three London Dry Gins and the Yorkshire Vodka that make up the remainder of the Ram range.”

The Distillery is now regularly open 5 days a week and can be booked for tours and tastings and private functions.
