Huddersfield Ice Cream Company Relishes Lunch Business Award

Artisan ice cream company Yummy Yorkshire is celebrating after scooping another national award win; this time for its newly expanded food and drink offering.

The Denby Dale ice cream parlour was voted as ‘Independent Outlet of the Year’ in the Lunch Business Grab & Go Awards which celebrate success in the eating out of home market.

Described as an awards scheme which ‘really gets to the heart of what makes the lunchtime trade tick’, the event highlights people’s culinary tastes, alongside the innovations of organisations in the UK.

Now in its third year, the awards scheme features a range of categories, including ‘Best Coffee Experience’, ‘Group Operator of the Year’, ‘Brand of the Year’, and ‘Marketing Award’.

Judges voted Yummy Yorkshire as ‘ Independent Outlet of the Year’ for illustrating growth within the business as well as displaying a strong food and drink offering. They also recognised the business’ reputation for innovative and 100% natural flavours.

More than 200 people from the food to go industry were at the London Art House to cheer on the winners at the glittering awards ceremony on September 23.

Speaking about their award win Louise Holmes said: “Wow, we actually did it! against some very stiff and well established competition. It’s great to receive recognition for our vision of turning the ice cream parlour into an eatery in its own right, serving a wide range of freshly cooked dishes all day long.”

Yummy Yorkshire invested £60,000 into the build of a new kitchen and appointment of a head chef at the beginning of the year. The new kitchen is three times bigger, which has allowed the business to widen its food offering and take on two new chefs. The whole menu has recently been revamped with the creation of bespoke dishes using locally sourced ingredients where possible. A third chef is responsible for the production of cakes and sweet treats with everything baked fresh in-house.

The award comes following a string of similar accolades this year alone, including a one star award for Yummy Yorkshire’s carrot and cardamom ice cream in the Great Taste Awards, and four wins for their produce in The Great Yorkshire Show.
