Huddersfield artisan ice cream producer *Yummy Yorkshire* has opened its doors to a bigger and better ice cream parlour and coffee shop.
The new ice cream parlour located on Yummy Yorkshire’s Denby Dale farm has been funded through a grant from the Rural Development Programme for England and is twice as big as the former coffee shop.
Twenty extra table settings have been created in the dining area of the shop, bringing the total to approximately 40. An extra serving counter dedicated to hot food has also been installed, freeing up the existing counter for ice cream use only, resulting in a speedier service for customers.
A serving hatch has also been created to serve those wishing to only buy an ice cream to take away. Over 16 flavours of Yummy Yorkshire’s award-winning ice cream will be available to choose from at any one time in addition to sundaes and milk shakes.
The coffee shop also sells freshly ground gourmet coffee, homemade cakes and scones as well as a selection of hot and cold dishes of regional produce freshly cooked by Yummy Yorkshire’s resident chef.
Customers will also be able to purchase a selection of locally made products in the shop including Chilli Jam, Yorkshire Honey, homemade marmalade and preserves, dry cured bacon, salami and chorizo plus a range of cheeses, milk and cream.
Speaking about the new ice cream parlour, Yummy Yorkshire co-founder Louise Holmes says: _”It’s fantastic that we now have the space to accommodate our visitors comfortably as well as the ability to showcase our products and those of the suppliers we work with._
_”We have worked really hard to get the layout and flow right in the shop so that service is quick and efficient. People can either come to enjoy a leisurely meal or drink or they can just buy an ice cream to take away. I’m excited about opening our doors and seeing the space being used as we imagined.”_
The expansion has enabled Yummy Yorkshire to take on two new temporary staff in preparation for the ice cream season.
Yummy Yorkshire has also used part of the £55,676 grant from the Rural Development Programme for England, co-funded by Defra and the EU, to purchase new freezing equipment, to help grow both the wholesale and retail side of the business. The company plans to increase production levels by 60% over the next three years.
