Wold Top Brewery will once again be providing refreshment for the hundreds of people visiting this year’s Burton Agnes Jazz and Blues Festival from 27th June to 29th June.
Billed by a critic for The Independent as “Possibly the most enjoyable jazz concert I’ve ever attended”, the annual festival is held in the beautiful, award-winning grounds of Burton Agnes Hall near Driffield and visitors will be able to relax to the sounds of summer blues and jazz whilst enjoying hand pulled real ales and fine Yorkshire food.
Tom Mellor, who owns Wold Newton based Wold Top Brewery with his wife Gill, is a keen musician and is delighted to be supporting the festival for the eighth year; “The festival generates a lot of interest from all over the UK and the spectacular venue lends itself perfectly to summer music.”
Over the last eight years Burton Agnes Jazz and Blues Festival has become a very popular event that showcases the best live jazz and blues over three nights and two days. This year’s line up includes Chantel McGregor, British Blues Award’s guitarist of the year and female vocalist of the year 2013; the legendary jump, jive, swing, rhythm and blues of King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys; New-Orleans-Bourbon-bar sultry vocals and boogie piano of Tipitina; festival band favourites, gospel tinged Polly and the Billets Doux to name but a few.
Festival organizer Simon Cunliffe-Lister is delighted to host the festival again and commented “The bands have all been selected to appeal to a variety of tastes and we are proud to be presenting a fantastic line up of performers that span jazz and blues from the traditional to the funky and from local favourites to internationally renowned acts that will be playing in the grand Elizabethan Hall and in the Hall’s beautiful grounds.”
Simon continued: “As ever, it is a laid-back family event with a Children’s Corner featuring balloon artistry and face painting, plus 15 acres of magical gardens to explore, with a maze, giant games, a jungle garden and a woodland walk with forest creatures to find. We are also heralding the arrival of Le Grand Départ to Yorkshire with a Mini Départ that will include time-trialled clown bike and toddler races on ‘Le Mini Course’; a celebration of French cuisine on the food lawn and the hothouse gypsy-jazz music of France’s most famous jazz guitarist, Django Reinhardt, performed on stage by Djangologie.”
The festival runs from 6pm-midnight Friday, 11am-midnight Saturday, 11am-6pm Sunday and early bird prices (until 1st June) range from £25 for an evening ticket to £60 for a weekend ticket. Farm based Wold Top Brewery is part of the Higher Level Stewardship (HLS) scheme for environmental initiatives and is also working closely with the RSPB to promote its birdlife. It brews traditional real ale from home and Wolds grown malting barley, the finest hops and chalk-filtered water from the farm’s own borehole.
