Richard Holmes, MD of Cryer & Stott Cheesemongers collected his MBE for services to the British food industry at a ceremony this week.
Supplier to leading restaurants, hotels and gastro pubs within the hospitality sector, as well as many sporting stadiums across the UK, Richard was recognised for his passion working with small artisan producers, as well as building an innovative product range.
The news of the award came in December 2022 while Richard was trading at York St Nicks Market but the news was kept under wraps until the official announcement was made on New Year’s Day.
Richard said: ‘’I’m honoured to receive such an accolade. It was such an amazing experience to visit Buckingham Palace with my family and receive my MBE from His Majesty King Charles’’.
The honour comes as the business celebrates its 25th year in business, with their achievements over the last quarter of a century including creating and growing one of the most successful cheesemongers/producers of fine foods in the UK, innovating several unique products including ‘Duke of Wellington’ blue cheese and ‘Ruby Gold’ and winning international awards, most recently at the World Cheese Awards in Norway.
The family run business have a history of championing small, local producers and working closely with them to successfully drive their products to market, alongside representing Yorkshire and the UK on the international stage, serving their unique products to royalty, ambassadors, and foreign dignitaries at the London 2012 Olympics.
