Modernised medieval barn shortlisted for Yorkshire tourism awards

The husband and wife team behind a thriving Selby business are celebrating after reaching the final of the prestigious White Rose awards.

The Barn in Monk Fryston has been shortlisted in the B&B and guest house of the year category in the annual tourism awards and is one of 103 finalists in the running to win a coveted trophy. Fellow finalists are Woodlands Farm, Grassfield Hall, No. 21 York and Bracken Hall House B&B.

Kevin and Faye Coles, who own The Barn and the adjacent Post Office and Village Stores, are delighted with the news. “Developing The Barn and The Village Stores has been a labour of love, but we’re delighted with the end results and this shortlist is testament to our passion, commitment and attention to detail – we’re over the moon!” said Kevin.

White Rose Award chair Elaine Lemm said: “This year’s panel of prestigious industry-wide experts have been well and truly put through their paces shortlisting for the recently revamped White Rose Awards. With the standard of entries continuing to rise, competition was fierce, and choosing finalists not easy. With the attention to detail, passion and sheer hard work seen from so many superb businesses, it is easy to see why Yorkshire has an outstanding reputation for tourism and hospitality.”

Organised by tourism body Welcome to Yorkshire, the White Rose Awards celebrate the very best in food, drink, accommodation and attractions. The winners will be announced at a glittering award ceremony at the Leeds First Direct Arena on Monday 25th November. Over 1000 guests will enjoy an evening of top quality Yorkshire entertainment, including live music and a three-course meal featuring Yorkshire produce.
